“How much is the fish”? The use of ecosystem services valuation in environmental management: challenges from behavioral perspective
Ekatarina Nikitina, University of Tromsø, writes:
"My PhD project is focused on the use of valuation of ecosystem services in informing environmental management. Using examples from wild Atlantic salmon management in Norway, I examine the challenges in the practical use of valuation. Marketization of the environment and other non-market goods has been studied from a behavioral perspective in different fields of social science. I use findings from this research to answer why valuation does not contribute to making better decisions about the environment as often as expected and are there other ways to account for non-market effects.
I would appreciate any feedback from IFRO researches on the issue of contribution of economics to environmental management."
