Signe Engdal

Signe is employed as a ph.d.-student in the section Sport, Individual and Society at NEXS, UCPH. Her ph.d.-project "SUND BRO IF. Sundhed og brobygning: Rekruttering og Overgang til Idrætsfællesskaber" [Healthy bridge IF. Health and Bridge-building: Recruitment and Transition to Sports Communities] is carried out as part of Centre for Team Sports and Health's research. It is a thee year project in which she researches collaborational relationships among five Danish municipalities and five local voluntary sports associations who aim to create transitions for adults and seniors from municipal health offers to sports activities in sports communities. Being part of Centre for Teams Sports and Health, Signe also supports and contributes to supplementary training and education. 

Signe became Bsc in Sport and Exercise Science in 2017 and in 2019 she graduated in Msc Humanities and Social Sports Sciences at UCPH. In her thesis, she researches a rehabilitation offer for men: Thesis on Vildmænd [wildmen]: A microsociological sportsanalysis of a rehabilitation programme with the use of nature for men in the municipality of Svendborg. 

In a period of 10 months, Signe was employed as a development and implementation consultant at Centre for Team Sports and Health before she in december 2020 was awarded a Ph.d.-position at the Centre until november 2023. 

Signe's research interests are many and involves both sociology of sport and exercise as well as sports policy and politics: sport and exercise as health promoting and preventive arenas, implementation processes in partnerships- and collaborational relationships between public and third sector, studies of sports communities and the influence volunteers and payed instructors on creating a sense of belonging. 

Methodologically speaking, she primarily focuses on qualitative research methods such as individual and focus group interviews, document analyses of policy documents and lastly observations of meetings, sports activities and sports communities in general.
