The race to reach global net zero carbon emission by mid-century is on. National net zero goals now cover around 90% of global emissions and thousands of corporations, regions and cities have joined the net zero frenzy.

Join us for two talks that examine the potentials and pitfalls of the emphasis on net zero as the rallying point for global climate governance.

Net Zero and capitalism as a World-ecology: critical perspectives on the global climate governance regime in the making

Camila Moreno is a researcher at Humboldt University, Berlin. She has engaged as observer and civil society ally in global climate governance since 2008 and her research engages the interface between the greening of capitalism, climate policy and global environmental governance.

Towards Net Zero: Whose emissions are inevitable?

Wim Carton is associate professor of political ecology at Lund University Centre for Sustainability Studies (LUCSUS). His research focuses on the politics of climate change mitigation, with a particular focus on carbon markets, carbon offsetting and carbon removal.
