Economic Impacts of Salmonella Dublin in Dairy Farms: Evidence from Denmark
Open online seminar with Dagim Belay, Department of Food and Resource Economics.
The number of epidemics and pandemics of diseases of animal origin has risen in recent decades, leading to a growing burden on global health and economy (as highlighted during the COVID-19 pandemic).
One of such diseases is Salmonella Dublin, which is a highly infectious and virulent strain of Salmonella that is common in cattle and can cause severe illness in both humans and animals.
Using a unique panel dataset that contains registered Salmonella antibodies (Optical Density Counts (ODC)) for delivered milk from all dairy farms in Denmark, this paper provides rigorous empirical estimates for the economic impacts of Salmonella Dublin.
