We will host this year's Ester Boserup Prize Award on September 3.

The recipient of the Ester Boserup Prize for Research on Development 2025 is Arturo Escobar, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

At the event, Stine Krøijer and Mattias Borg Rasmussen will give the lecture "Celebrating Arturo Escobar’s work".

Arturo Escobar is an activist-researcher from Cali, Colombia, working on territorial struggles against extractivism, postdevelopmentalist and post-capitalist transitions, and ontological design. He was professor of anthropology and political ecology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, until 2018. He is currently adjunct professor with the PhD Program in Design and Creation, Universidad de Caldas, Manizales, Colombia, and with the PhD Program in Environmental Sciences, Universidad del Valle, Cali.

The Ester Boserup Thesis Prize 2025 will be awarded to Bjørn Bo Sørensen, Postdoc.

Bjørn Bo Sørensen will give an open lecture titled: "Industrial Development in Africa and Asia".

Bjørn Bo Sørensen is a Post Doctoral researcher in the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) at the Department of Economics at the University of Copenhagen. Bjørn received his PhD in February 2024. His research seeks to understand the drivers and hindrances to structural transformation and domestic revenue mobilization in low-income countries. Bjørn has research experience from China, Kenya, Mozambique, Myanmar, South Africa, Tanzania and Vietnam.  

The event is open to all. You do not have to register.
