Understanding Food Economics

Henning Otte Hansen

Open online seminar with Henning Otte Hansen, Department of Food and Resource Economics.

About the seminar:

The presentation is based on a new upcoming book (2025/26) and will be split into four parts.

The first part of the presentation is a "classic" part, where the special aspects of food economics are identified, documented and exemplified.

The second part has focus on the entire food value chain: Food economics is about the food value chain from R&D, input, agriculture, processing, wholesale, retail and food service to the consumers.

The third part focuses on the new world situation, in which food economics must be regarded. The world is changing, new areas of policy become more important, and food crises, biotechnology, climate, biodiversity, bioeconomy etc. are more important topics and factors. Disruptions and resilience are also becoming important new parameters in the food economy.

Finally, the fourth part includes a few cases in order to illustrate and exemplify the topics.
