No Silver Bullet: How AI Challenges Basic Assumptions about University Exams

Mads Paludan Goddiksen

Open online seminar with Mads Paludan Goddiksen, Department of Food and Resource Economics

Generative AI (GAI) is forcing us to rethink exams. Ongoing discussions at universities focus on replacing existing formats 1:1 with GAI-resistant ones.

In the seminar, Mads Paludan Goddiksen argues that this approach will work. Instead, we should take the opportunity to more fundamentally rethink assessment at universities. Specifically, he argues that GAI forces us to abandon two common, but often tacit, assumptions about assessment at university level:

  • An exam measures the learning outcome of one course
  • Students who take the same courses must take the same exams

In the seminar we will explore what assessment can look like, if we abandon these assumptions and how it can lead to assessments that are not only GAI-resilient, but better.

How to participate

The seminar is open to all.
