Climate Beliefs and Policy Responses in Agriculture
Open online seminar with Kahsay Haile Zemo, Department of Food and Resource Economics.
About the seminar
Agriculture is a major contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, yet efforts to regulate it often encounter resistance from farmers. In Denmark, the recent introduction of a CO2e tax on agricultural emissions has sparked discussion among stakeholders.
This seminar presents findings from a representative survey of Danish farmers, showing that climate change beliefs are correlated with biased perceptions of the tax’s impacts, opposition to the tax, and participation in climate mitigation schemes. The study highlights the important role of personal beliefs in the acceptance of climate policies in agriculture.
