N2 - In the beginning of the 20th century both theory and the data were available for utility based empirical demand analysis. The most famous pioneer work within this area is Pigou’s note from Economic Journal, 1910, and Frisch's contributions from the late 1920s. This note draws attention to a book by the Danish economist Edward Ph. Mackeprang from 1902 which ought to enter into the series of these early pioneering works.
